Cale Tanguay had once considered education as a career direction, but he felt the accounting world was a better fit. Cale brought these two things together in a roundabout way when he became an accountant for Winnipeg’s Pembina Trails School Division in 2006.

“Friends and family have told me on many occasions that I’m very good with numbers,” says Cale, “and if you’re good with numbers, accounting is the place to be.”

Cale was looking for an accounting environment where he could interact with a variety of clients, and news of a job-opening in a non-traditional accounting role piqued his interest in Prophet Business Group. Cale joined Prophet’s team of software consultants in August 2011, and he quickly jumped into the learning process.

“I like to learn, and Tracey was a great help in getting me up-to-speed,” says Cale. “I’ve read many Microsoft Dynamics GP training manuals and watched instructional videos on my computer.”

In the past few months, Cale’s biggest contribution as part of Prophet’s team has been assisting with the Dynamics GP implementation for Assiniboine Credit Union (ACU). He’s helped ACU with the transition by integrating its existing data and providing hands-on training with ACU staff.

Cale’s previous work included two yearsof auditing and consulting with Grant Thornton LLP. At Grant Thornton, Cale helped a publicly-traded international pulp and paper company assess its internal controls and prepared a risk analysis for Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance (corporate governance and financial practice regulations). With Cale’s understanding of the corporate world, Prophet’s customers will soon discover they have a knowledgeable and experienced consultant.

Cale is a CGA and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba in 2005 where he majored in Finance and Accounting. When he’s not focused on the columns of a general ledger, Cale likes to go fishing with friends in Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Cale is also an avid hockey player and is a defenceman on two local hockey teams.

What's your least favourite thing?
“An unbalanced balance sheet, but it’s a great relief when I find the error.”
